Multi User Terminal Redevelopment

The Multi User Terminal Redevelopment (MUTR) is a redevelopment of the existing Terminal precinct at Canberra Airport. The works include a new 50,000m² Terminal, two 38,000m² car parks with office accommodation on the top levels, a central Elevated Road, road network infrastructure and upgrading and extension to aprons and taxiways to service the aircraft. All of these works are being undertaken in and around the existing operational Terminal car parks and Aprons. One of the main challenges of the project is to limit the disruption to the travelling public, therefore the planning and staging of these works is critical to the project stakeholders.

The main Architectural features of the Terminal building are the central atrium and the facade which is predominately glass. The Mechanical, Electrical and tri-generation services installation and coordination is one of the main challenges of this cutting edge project. The finishes to the public areas of the Terminal feature Terrazzo floors, stone clad walls and pre finished metal ceiling panels. The installation of baggage handling systems and the air bridges are two examples of the aviation services that are unique to the project.

To maintain the functionality of the Airport the Southern Concourse is connected to the existing MUT (Virgin/Tiger) building. The existing Qantas end of the Terminal s being demolished to make way for the Western Concourse. The MUT (Virgin/Tiger) end of the Terminal will then be demolished after the completion of the Western Concourse to allow the final stages of Apron work to be undertaken.
