Managing Director

Pete Payten

Pete joined Construction Control as Managing Director in 2015 following several years with both Laing O’Rourke and Lendlease. Pete has a proven track record of success in senior management positions and has successfully led teams through the conversion and delivery of major projects in a number of sectors and regions.

As Managing Director, Pete takes great pride in the legacy established by Construction Control since its inception in 1988, as this has established a strong, resilient and reliant platform to launch the company into its next phase.

Director and NSW State Manager

David Hill

David joined Construction Control in 2009 and in 2017 relocated to Sydney to lead the company’s NSW operations including driving business growth in the metro and regional NSW market. Before moving to Sydney David worked across a range of high-profile private sector and government projects in the ACT and NSW. He is committed to the successful delivery of current projects in NSW while expanding and diversifying the Construction Control NSW client and project base. In parallel David is still making valuable contributions to company-wide operations, strategy, and broader business development. David is a talented, charismatic, and driven member of the company’s Senior Management Team and is extremely well respected within the construction industry.

In conjunction with his role in Construction Control David is also a Director of BYCC Alliance which was formed in July 2021 by an alliance between Construction Control and BY Group (which was started in 2014 by 3 Bundjalung men) to create job opportunities for Indigenous people into the construction industry. As an 100% Australian-owned and operated and Supply Nation certified business, BYCC Alliance is dedicated to helping ‘Close the Gap’ by offering lasting construction career pathways, skills, and opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

As a Founding Director of BYCC Alliance David is focussed on further establishing BYCC Alliance to deliver top quality construction work and Indigenous engagement outcomes to the Australian Commercial and Government sectors.

Director

Lauren Couter

Lauren joined Construction Control in 2006 after some time with Tier 1 companies, including John Holland and United Group. Lauren has experience across a number of disciplines, including large scale commercial construction, fitouts, retail, educational and technically complex laboratory facilities.

Lauren’s current major project is the ANU Hail remediation project, a logistically complex project within the large operational campus. Lauren’s strength lies in her ability to create a working environment that promotes a productive team environment and by forging strong and positive working relationships between the client, consultants, and subcontractors.

Lauren received the 2019 ACT NAWIC Crystal Vision Award in recognition for her achievements in mentoring and promoting women in construction and was named Construction Woman of the Year at the 2023 ACT Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Awards..

Director

Matt Adam

Matt has had diverse experience within the construction industry, having prior to joining Construction Control in 2005, spent several years with NSW Public Works and a national Quantity Surveyor.

Over his 20 years of experience Matt has managed the front-end project planning and design and delivered as Project Construction Manager some of Construction Control’s largest and most complex projects. Through his diligent work, constant commitment to project delivery objectives and acute understanding of the industry, Matt is well respected by clients, consultants, subcontractors and project teams alike.

Matt takes a proactive and positive approach to resolving issues, which recently saw him awarded the 2021 ACT MBA Project Manager of the Year Award.

Director

Ben Owen

Ben is passionate about the industry as he believes that great places and buildings inspire and improve the lives of those that experience them. Ben is a highly respected industry leader and is recognised for his unwavering commitment to his clients and ‘best-for-project’ outcomes.

His CV boasts a wealth of experience in the delivery of ‘non-typical’ projects, ranging from $50 million to $2billion, within Canberra and the surrounding regions. Key features of his project experience include: work in a range of sectors including commercial, high-security, Defence, educational, health and correctional; works in sensitive operational environments including airports, Defence bases and universities; and delivery of ‘time critical’ projects with accelerated construction durations such as Kambri at the ANU, MH-60R at HMAS Albatross, and the Cessnock Correctional Centre.

Ben joined Construction Control in 2024, following 5 years as the General Manager for Lendlease in the ACT.

Director

Peter Wright

Peter joined Construction Control as a Director in 2001 following a long career with Lendlease. Peter’s contribution to the company has been a major factor in Construction Control’s growth.

Peter is a very experienced resource who has a proven ability to manage large complex projects and build strong teams that achieve results via sound project management disciplines. Peter is highly regarded and respected within the property industry in Canberra

Director

Ian Bowyer

Ian joined Construction Control as a Director in 2001. Ian is one of Canberra’s most experienced construction personalities. He took responsibility for the construction of the Brindabella Business Park at the Canberra Airport. With the growth of the company, Ian moved to the $280m Canberra Centre expansion project.

Ian is highly respected by his clients and by the commercial sub contract market. Prior to joining Construction Control Ian worked for Lendlease for eighteen years.

Founder

John Gasson

John established Construction Control in 1988 and quickly developed a reputation for delivering high quality projects that meet the needs of his client.

John has steadily and strategically grown the company such that it is now one of Canberra’s largest businesses, operating along the eastern seaboard, delivering property related project management services to a wide range of Government and private clients.

Chief Financial Officer

Chris McKee

Chris is a Chartered Accountant, has an MBA and is responsible to the Board for the financial and corporate functions of the Construction Control group. The role encompasses all financial and commercial activities of the group, including overseeing project finances, strategic finance issues and corporate compliance.

Chris has over twenty years finance experience, in a broad range of industries including professional services, hospitality, accommodation services, consulting engineering and technology. Chris worked for five years in audit, before moving to commerce.

Chris is a member of the company’s Management Team and his contribution on broader company issues is highly valued.

Systems, Quality and Staff Development Manager

Donovan de Ligt

Donovan brought with him a diverse range of career experience when he joined Construction Control in 2007 and used this background to help deliver several projects at the Australian National University, Fairbairn Business Park, the Canberra Airport Terminal and most recently the award-winning Constitution Place development in Canberra City. In January 2020 Donovan was promoted to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager. In recognition of his passion, in 2022 Donovan has been rewarded with a new role within the company that focuses on Systems, Quality and Staff Development.

Donovan has driven the continual improvement of our accredited business management system and led our digital transformation, which has seen Construction Control develop a reputation as an industry leader in the use of technology to deliver safe, healthy, environmentally sustainable, and high-quality projects.

Donovan will focus on maintaining our client driven emphasis regarding our systems and lead the development of our staff and the building of productive relationships with consultants, and key sub-contractors.

Financial Controller

Fiona Chen

Fiona is a qualified CPA and has been with Construction Control since 2015. Fiona has strong construction experience at corporate level overseeing key aspects of the group’s finance functions. She monitors project financial outcomes and assists functional operational areas to ensure accuracy of processing.

Fiona is responsible for the group’s statutory and management reporting. Fiona leads the transactional processing team, manages the treasury function and ensures financial, legal, tax and compliance obligations are met.

Health Safety and Environmental Manager

Chris Ison

Chris joined Construction Control’s Health, Safety and Environmental team in 2007. Over his fifteen years with the company, Chris has provided invaluable input and solutions across a broad range of our projects, including numerous buildings at the Canberra Airport precinct and the ANU, Civic Quarter 2 and other large residential and commercial developments.

Chris brings an extensive working knowledge and supervisory experience in the construction industry. Throughout his career, Chris has completed a substantial number of HSE and construction related qualifications that further compliment his comprehensive site based experience.

Chris provides a pragmatic approach to the position of HSE Manager and is supported by a dedicated team of site-based safety professionals. His refined understanding of WHS legislation, underpinned with a construction background ensures complex projects are delivered safely and within the parameters of legislative compliance.
